‘Another Energy’ at Mori Art Museum exhibits 16 female artists in their 70s or older, from across the world, who continue to embark on new challenges. They are originally from different countries, and diverse in their current locations. They share a steadfast determination to pursue their own creative path with unshakable conviction.
Showcasing their wide array of works, from paintings, video, sculptures, to large-scale installations and performances, this exhibition contemplates the nature of the special strength – “Another Energy” – of these women who have persevered against odds throughout their careers.
Latamart calls for attention to five works by Carmen Herrera are on view, including Angulo Rojo (2017-2018). Her message is part of her Estructuras series, based on paintings really “crying out to become sculpture”. The Estructuras represent a rare break in Herrera’s two dimensionality of her paintings. She began the sketches and preparations for her Estructuras (Structures) in the late 1960s, and continues to make them today.
The exhibition is on view from 22 April – 26 September 2021.
