Life Spirit in Cityscapes
Puerto Rican artist based in New York City, depicts the urban landscape in the way many urban dwellers experience it: in transit. His art pieces inspired by every day events, which transposes onto his canvas using bright and vibrant colors with lots of texture using spatula, brushes and his fingers.
This particular painting, “Times Square”, is from his NYC series. Rafael’s message is to present the physical aspects of city life. Mind takes form in the city; and in turn, urban forms condition minds. He painted it at the end of last year and it depicts his feelings of longing for a world without COVID where people can go out and about in one of the most versatile cities in the world.
