Central American & Mexican art is, at its greatest, worldly identified as profoundly native. Modern art in Mexico and Central America shares much with the best modern art in South America. Nevertheless, artists reflect their native geography with a quality distinctly identifiable within Central American art, demonstrating on its own the magnitude of the talent Central America and Mexico have contributed to modernism.

In Mexico, artists were commissioned by the post-Mexican government to create a visual narrative of history and culture. “This new movement sought to create a “real” Mexican art that would strengthen and reaffirm Mexican identity and the values of the Revolution.”
