Carlos Cañas was born in Ahuachapán, El Salvador, in 1924 and passed away in 1985. He was a painter and muralist known for his politically charged works, which often criticized the political and social injustices in El Salvador. His most famous work is the mural “El Masacre del Templo de la Concordia” (The Massacre of the Temple of Concordia), which depicts the murder of student activists during a peaceful protest.
