Colombian sculptor. He was born in Popayán and studied at the School of Fine Arts, California, 1938–43. His career was spent mainly in Bogotá, but he had two periods in New York, 1948–50 and 1953–63, and in between them travelled in Europe, 1951–3. Early in his career he produced semi-abstract stone carvings in the tradition of Arp, but in the 1950s he turned to Constructivism, using industrial metal parts bolted together (Coupling, 1966, Public Gardens, Bogotá).
