LATINAMERICAN ARTISTS IN THE VENICE ART BIENNALE

Latin America is represented by 9 countries: Argentina, Mexico, Peru, and Chile (Arsenale), while Uruguay and Brazil are located in the Giardini. In addition, the Dominican Republic has its debut at the Biennale with its own pavilion, located near the famous Rialto Bridge, like that of Guatemala. Cuba, for its part, is located on the island of San Servolo.  A third of the 331 artists that make up the Official Selection are Latin American, an unprecedented proportion in the history of the great universal expo-, sixteen artists have been selected from Argentina, many of them linked to historical modernism. Four of them have an active presence on the local scene. 114 belong to Latin America and the Caribbean. The Venice Biennale is directed for the first time by a Latin-American: Adriano Pedrosa.
